The name 'Yoga' comes from the sanskrit word 'Yuji' means 'unite or to join'. Yoga are the physical, mental and spiritual or discipline that aims to transfer body and mind. It has a range of poses and well set out sequences for persons with different profiles and conditions. There are several simple positions as well as more complex ones. You must always begin with simple poses and gradually over time move towards the complex ones. Our modern day lifestyle is too hectic and puts a lot of stress on us which in turn causes a lot of lifestyle problems like obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes etc. Studies in the field of medicine suggests that yoga is the only form of physical activity that provides complete exercise to the body.

                      People generally think that yoga is generally a series of exercises and twisted body poses. It creates a balance between body and mind and to attain self enlightenment. The poses work by stretching your muscles. They can help you move better and feel less stiff or tired. At any level of yoga, you ll probably start to notice benefits soon. In one study people improved their flexibility by 33% after only 8 weeks of yoga. In order to accomplish, it makes use of different movements, breathing exercises, relaxation technique and meditation. It involves the practice of physical postures and poses, which is referred to as 'Asana' in sanskrit. It is a complete way of life including -

Raja Yoga - path of mind control and Hatha yoga. 
Raja Yoga is further divided into eight parts of which only one part is Asana or postures. 

Yoga has been gaining immense popularity due to short term and long term benefits that it provides. The aims of yoga enthusiasts are extremely varied. Some are particularly inspired by spiritual element that yoga provides, the others by increased fitness and flexibility. Some people find solutions to suffering from various health disorders and there are others who achieved All round Development of calm, stress free mind and fit body. 

The importance of yoga poses:

Yoga poses have been developed over centuries of research and experience. They have been found to be extremely effective in:

  • Increasing flexibility of the body and freeing all energy blocks. Besides increasing flexibility, this leads to a healthier body.
  • Helping to lose excess fat and weight. Massaging the internal organs of the body and rarely stimulated parts such as thyroid gland.
  • Helping to treat several health disorders from common ones such as backache and arthritis. 
  • Most standing and sitting poses develop core strength, since you need your core muscles to support and maintain each pose.
  • You may feel less stress and more relaxed after doing some yoga.
  • Yoga has long been known to lower blood pressure and slower heart rate. A lower heart rate can benefit people with high blood pressure or heart disease and people who have had a stroke.
  • Researches found that 8 weeks of daily yoga significantly improve sleep quality for people with insomnia.
  • Yoga is perhaps the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body.
  • By gently stretching muscles and joints as well as massaging the various organs, yoga ensures the optimum blood supply to various parts of the body. This helps in flushing out the toxins from the body as well as providing nourishment and benefits delayed ageing and energy.
